The obituary of Mrs. Clella Sergent Cook Officiating Minister: Pastor Steve Springer Mrs. Clella S. Cook born June 12, 1929 departed this life on February 28, 2009 at the Hazard Appalachian Regional Medical Center, Hazard Kentucky. She was 79 years, 8 months, & 16 days old. Clella was born at Cawood, Ky., the daughter of the late Taft Sergent & Beulah Fields. Clella attended Eastern Kentucky University & Union College. She was awarded a master's degree. Clella was a retired elementary school teacher, having taught for 42 years. She was very active in the 4-H program & drama programs during her distinguished teaching career. Clella had a great interest in Appalachian folklore & her Appalachian Heritage. She taught this to her students through telling stories she so affectionately referred to as "Jack Tales". Clella was a very a faithful member of the Lower Beech Fork United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School for 50 years & again directed numerous youth plays & drama events. She was very active in the Beech Fork Community, as she believed it her duty to visit the sick & the elderly. Clella enjoyed reading, bird watching, hiking, the outdoors & nature and most of all being involved in the life of her grandson, Rickey Paul. She had been a resident of Leslie Co., for 59 years, residing at 9388 Highway 421, Mozelle, Ky., at the time of her death. Mrs. Clella Sergent Cook was preceded in death by her parents: Taft Sergent & Beulah Fields Sergent, her loving & devoted husband, Paul, one sister, Eulalah, & one brother, William Taft Sergent. Mrs. Clella Sergent Cook leaves the following relatives surviving: one daughter: Ruth Ann Cook Ervin and her husband, Rickey, of Mozelle, Ky., one brother: Willard C. Sergent & wife, Linda, of London, Ky., three sisters: Ethel Roop and husband, Harvey, of Cranks, Ky., Margaret Sergent of Cawood, Ky., Mary Sue Fox of Fort Myers, Florida, sister-in-law, Martha Cook Nantz, one grandson: Rickey Paul Ervin of Mozelle, Ky., & a host of treasured nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends to mourn her death. The funeral service for Mrs. Clella Sergent Cook will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. - Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at the Lower Beech Fork United Methodist Church, Mozelle, Ky., with Pastor Steve Springer officiating. The interment will follow in the Mosley Cemetery, Mozelle, Ky., under the direction of the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home Staff. Friends may call for visitation at 6:00 p.m. - Monday, March 2, 2009 at the Lower Beech Fork United Methodist Church, Mozelle, Ky. The following will serve as pallbearers: Rickey Ervin, Jerry Nantz, Willard Sergent, Larry Cook, Gary Cook, Doug Motzer, Greg Walker, Lee Stanton, Henry Stanton, & Jeff Kilgore.
