Mrs. Virginia Shepherd lovingly known as “Virgie” was born May 3, 1947, to the late Adam and Cody Baker in Cinda, Kentucky. Virgie received her angel wings on April 23, 2024, after a long and courageous battle with cancer, proving she was tough as nails! Virgie was a true angel on Earth, devoting her love and life to her family. Her love for the Lord was shown within her smile and the grace she bestowed upon all those around her.

Mrs. Virgie was a lifelong resident of Leslie County, with the exception of the last 18 years spent residing in Corbin, Kentucky. By occupation Virgie was a homemaker devoting her time to caring for her family. She spent several years working at Hurricane Mini Mart, greeting everyone with her sweet smile. Prior to her years at Hurricane Mini Mart, she worked alongside her sister at Blue Castle Diner and Don’s Dairy Delight. Spreading light unto everyone that came in contact with her.

Virgie was united in marriage on August 25, 1964, to the love of her life, Martin Shepherd Jr. Together they have four children, Linda (Henry) Staley, of Hudson, Florida. Keith (Esperanza) Shepherd of Corbin, Kentucky. Kenny (Tammy) Shepherd of Georgetown, Kentucky. Crystal (JD) Shepherd of Charleston, South Carolina. three sisters, Wanda Maggard, Stephanie Adams and Mildred Ritchie. Virgie was Nanny to eleven grandchildren, Lekeisha Shepherd, Dustin (Sarah) Shepherd, Austin (Karri) Shepherd, Maggie (Austin) Lawson, Chad (Mackenzie) Shepherd, Clarke Staley, Mary-Beth Staley, Martin Sebastian Shepherd, Maddox Bays, Haley Shepherd, and Memphis Shepherd.  Great Nanny to eight great-grandchildren, Cali, Lainey, Marleigh, Leyton, Chesney, Deacon, Everly, and Charlie. Special nephew Coy Lee Baker whom she loved like her own.  All of which she leaves surviving and will continue to mourn her passing along with a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Virgie was preceded in death by her parents, loving husband Martin, brothers Mack and Charlie, sisters Marcella and Mallie.

“The world changes from year to year, our lives from day to day but the love and memory of you, shall never pass away.” There will forever only be one Virgie.
