Virgie Collett born February 9, 1941 departed this life on Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at the Hazard ARH Medical Center, Hazard, KY.  She was 79 years old. Virgie was born at Roark, Ky., the daughter of the late Charlie Collett & Laura Napier Collett. Virgie received her BA degree from Cumberland College & her Master's Degree & Rank I in education from Union College.  Virgie had a very distinguished career in the field of education. She taught elementary education for 47 years.  She received the "Living Legend Award" from the Red Bird Alumni Association in 2019 and was honored as the teacher of the year at Red Bird School in 2015.  Virgie's first teaching job was at Upper Jack's Creek, she then taught at Lower Jacks Creek .  Virgie's next job was at Stinnett Elementary where she retired in 1990.  She came out of retirement in 1998 and taught at the Red Bird School until 2014.  Virgie was a dedicated member of the Lower Jacks Creek United Methodist Church.  She enjoyed quilting, sewing, playing the piano and singing.  She was an avid supporter of Red Bird School Basketball. Virgie loved watching The Young & The Restless.  Virgie's great joy came from spending time with her daughter, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mrs. Virgie Collett was preceded in death by her parents; Charlie Collett & Laura Napier Collett, three brothers; Vernon, Wiley & Carl Collett, four sisters; Della Napier, Fern Hall, Nell Collett & Molly Roark. Mrs. Virgie Collett leaves the following relatives surviving:  her loving & devoted husband, Elias Collett, whom she married May 20, 1959, one cherished daughter; Patty Vance and husband, Steve of Roark, KY., three beloved brothers; Fred Collett of Roark, Ky., Ernest Collett of Roark, Ky.., Bobby Collett and wife, Linda, of Springboro, Ohio, two beloved sisters; Emily Collett and husband, Marcus, of Roark, Ky., Donna Collett and husband, Donald of Roark, Ky., three treasured grandchildren; Derrick Howard & wife, Natasha of Beverly, KY., Erik Young & wife, Hannah of London, Ky., Zeb Vance of New York, New York, three treasured great-grandsons; Lucas Howard, Christopher Howard, Andrew Howard and a host of other relatives and friends.
