Tommy Sawyers, a dedicated coal miner and beloved family man, passed away on February 1, 2026, at Hazard ARH Medical Center in Hazard, Kentucky. He was 70 years old. Tommy's career as a coal miner was marked by hard work, dedication, and a commitment to his craft, characteristics that defined his life. Outside of his working hours, he was a man of many passions. Additionally, he was an avid collector of Hank Williams memorabilia, finding joy in the timeless music that resonated with him. Tommy was a member of the Grassy Branch Pentecostal Church at Essie, KY.
Family was at the core of Tommy's life. He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Osborne Sawyers, and his devoted son, Tommy Scott Sawyers. He will be sorely missed by his brothers, Clyde Sawyers and his wife, Jerri, and Jerry Sawyers. His memory will also live on through his sisters, Geneva Sawyers Dixon and her husband, Randy, and Kathy Sawyers Couch and her husband, Rod, mother-in-law, whom Tommy thought of as a mother, Mallie Osborne, sister-in-law, Marlene Morgan, brothers-in-law, Ben Osborne and Virgil Osborne, cousins, Darrell Wayne Hacker and Kathy Hacker Messer, who were like siblings to him. In addition, he leaves behind a multitude of nieces and nephews, including Randall Shane, Timothy Ray Couch, Kirstin Gross, Travis Wayne "Bird" Couch, Tonya Lewis, Melissa Melton, Angie Bolella, Lisa Di Gioia, Steve Sawyers, Sabrina Sawyers, Candida Sawyers, Donovan Sawyers, and Jeana Huffman. Each of them carries forward a piece of his legacy.
