Thelma Jean Helton Lewis

September 21, 1931 — November 25, 2021

Mrs. Thelma Jean Helton Lewis born September 21, 1931 in Cardinal, KY to the late, Charlie Helton & Sudie Brock Helton. She crossed that river to her eternal home on Thursday, November 25, 2021. She was 90 years of age. In her younger years, Thelma worked for the  W. T. Grant Company as a waitress in their in-store restaurant.  Her adept skill as a waitress and a cook quickly brought her favor in the company as she was made the restaurant manager.  The company was so impressed with her that they soon charged her with starting new company restaurants, even flying her to Denver, CO for a few weeks to help open a restaurant there.  As her family grew and needed her at home, she left the corporate world for a much higher calling, being the amazing mother her children needed. After 23 years of living in Dayton, OH, she and her husband, the late Pastor Pearl Lewis, moved back to Hyden, KY for good.  For the next 29 years, she served faithfully alongside her husband as Pastors of Rockhouse Pentecostal Church.  During this time is when her gifting as a spiritual mother flourished.  Thelma enjoyed taking care of her family and friends, and serving anywhere there was a need.  She loved to cook, fish, and spend time vacationing with her family.

Thelma was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Charlie & Sudie Brock Helton, her loving & devoted husband whom she married on November 25, 1949, Pastor Pearl Lewis, two cherished children, Gary Wayne Lewis & Nina Joyce Lewis Gibson, four sisters, Mourine Putteet, Ruby Sweet, Shirley Faye Helton & Betty Lou Helton and two brothers, Paul David Helton & Charles Helton. She is survived by two cherished children, Darrell Lynn Lewis & wife Sandy of Hyden, KY & Patricia Gail Lewis Hoskins & husband, Charlie of Hyden, KY, son-in-law, David Gibson, daughter-in-law, Shelia Walters Lewis, one brother, Dorsel Helton, three sisters, Margie Putteet, Billie Sue Hensley & Judy Blanton, ten treasured grandchildren, Grant, Heather, Justin, Jessica, Darren, Courtney, Kyle, Nina Danielle, Tyler & Nickia, twenty two treasured great grandchildren & eight treasured great great grandchildren and a host of treasured nieces & nephews.
