Teresa Lewis Joseph, a dedicated registered nurse and beloved member of the community, passed away December 23, 2023. She was born on February 10, 1957, in Harlan, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Ralph Lewis and Mary Rose Sizemore Lewis. Teresa dedicated 32 years of her life to the nursing profession, making a lasting impact on the lives she touched.
Teresa had a very distinguished nursing career at the Hazard Appalachian Regional Medical Center, where she served with distinction for 28 years before retirement. Her commitment to providing compassionate care and her unwavering dedication to her patients earned her the respect and admiration of both her colleagues and those she cared for.
In addition to her professional achievements, Teresa had a vibrant personality that brought joy to those around her. She possessed a kind and welcoming nature, always willing to lend a listening ear or offer guidance when needed. Teresa was known for her directness and honesty, traits that were appreciated by all who knew her. Her infectious sense of humor never failed to bring a smile to people's faces.
Outside of work, Teresa found great pleasure in various hobbies and interests. She had an exceptional talent in the kitchen and loved cooking meals, especially for her family. Her vegetable and flower garden showcased her green thumb, while mowing the grass on her riding mower allowed her to appreciate the beauty of nature firsthand. She had a great love of animals especially horses, dogs and cats. Teresa also enjoyed attending her son's car races, showing unwavering support for him in his pursuits.
Education held a significant place in Teresa's heart as well. She obtained a Bachelor's degree in nursing from the University of Kentucky, further enriching her knowledge and skills in the field she loved.
Among Teresa's proudest accomplishments were not only her successful career but also the deep relationships she fostered with co-workers throughout the years. She cherished the bonds she formed with them and valued their friendship immensely.
Family meant everything to Teresa, particularly her parents Ralph Lewis and Mary Rose Sizemore Lewis, whom she held in high regard. She strived to emulate their values and treated them with the utmost respect. As a mother to David James Wells, Teresa poured all her love and care into raising him, creating a close and unbreakable bond. Her devotion to her parents and son was unparalleled.
Teresa's legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew her. She leaves behind a husband, Billy Joe Joseph of Hyden, KY; her beloved son David James Wells and his fiance, Tonya Foley of Wooton, KY; and David Wells, the father of her son. She was also survived by her special cousin Dana Tennill.
A Funeral Service will be held to honor Teresa's life on December 29, 2023, at Central Presbyterian Church EPC in Hyden, Kentucky. The service is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m., with Pastor Merle Caudill officiating. Friends may call for visitation from 6-9:00 P.M. - Thursday - December 28, 2023 a the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home, 155 Hickory Street, Hyden, KY. The address for the Central Presbyterian Church EPC is 137 Hickory Street, Hyden, KY. The interment will follow the service Friday at the Maggard Cemetery, Hyden, KY.
