Taylor Wagers, aged 69, departed his earthly life on January 10th, 2026 at IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. Taylor was born on December 22nd, 1956 and grew up in the Double Creek area of Redbird, Kentucky. Taylor resided in London, Kentucky for many years before moving to Indianapolis in 2000.Taylor was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Hazel Wagers; a brother, Mason Wagers; and his first wife, Betty Wagers. He is survived by his son Matthew B. Napier of Indianapolis; his daughter Andrea Napier-Long and son-in-law Adam of Indianapolis; the mother of his children, Regina Hoskins of Canada; two grandsons, Finnegan Napier and Gabriel Giron of Indianapolis; four sisters, Arlene Rehme and husband Gregg of Richmond, KY; Bertha Smith and husband Larry of Mt. Vernon, KY; Sheila Minton and husband Bob of Manchester, KY; and Willie Jean Moore of Richmond, KY; grandmother of his children, Wilma Hoskins of Stinnett, KY; and an aunt, uncles, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.By occupation, Taylor was a retired coal miner from the Shamrock Coal Company and a flooring installer. His devotion to his family and children is what he will be best-remembered for as he leaves behind a family that deeply loves him. The loves of his life were his children and grandchildren. He would have gone to the ends of the earth and back to provide for or help them. He was a devoted father and "Pap Pap.” Even though they were separated by distance and his health declined in his later years, he remained close to his beloved and supportive sisters.Taylor had the great pleasure and blessing to live out the last years of his life residing with his son where he developed a special relationship with his young grandson Finn. Before his health declined, they spent many years together playing on the playground, going on walks and adventures, hunting for rocks and fossils, watching television programs together, and acting out role play games, as Taylor was just a big kid at heart himself.Being raised and brought up in the Kentucky Appalachian mountains, Taylor was a true outdoorsman and loved almost any activity that involved being outdoors. He adored being in the mountains and never got accustomed to the flat prairie landscape of Indiana. Kentucky was always "down home" to Taylor. In the prime of his life, Taylor enjoyed, most of all, horses and all things related including horse riding, trail riding, horse breaking and training, horse shows, and going to livestock sales. He also found great pleasure in squirrel hunting and coon hunting, camping, fishing, flea markets, traveling, classic cars and muscle cars, farming, agriculture, and history.Mischievous by nature, Taylor delighted in harmless pranks and loved to cut up and joke, and was known to sneak in some Little Debbie snack cakes to satisfy his sweet tooth from time to time. Taylor also relished in sharing stories with his family and acquaintances about his life growing up in Kentucky and his coal mining days.Taylor was known by many and loved by all. He possessed one of the kindest, gentlest hearts and would do absolutely anything for anyone, be it his family or a stranger on the street. He'd give away the shirt off his back or give away his last dollar without a moment's hesitation. He gave in death as he gave in life by becoming an organ and tissue donor hero. The family is planning a Celebration of Life with details to come at a later date.In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Taylor's honor to the IU Health Foundation directing your donation to IU Methodist Hospital or to the Indiana Donor Network. Both are wonderful organizations that hold a special place in the hearts of his family.
