Shirley Ramey

December 28, 1945 — April 5, 2024

In loving memory of Shirley Ramey, a Certified Kentucky Social Worker as a senior case worker specialist for the Department of Social Insurance, who graced this world on December 28, 1945, in Hyden, KY. She departed from this life on April 5, 2024, at Wells Hospice Care Center-Hazard, KY at the age of 78.

Shirley's journey was one characterized by compassion and dedication. Armed with an Associated Degree in Social Work, she devoted her career to serving others and making a meaningful impact as a social worker. Her commitment to helping those in need knew no bounds, leaving an indelible mark on the lives she touched.
A woman of diverse interests, Shirley found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She had a passion for reading, with a particular fondness for her Bible. Her skillful hands created beautiful afghans through crocheting, while nature beckoned her to enjoy fishing and camping. Cooking for family gatherings brought her immense happiness as she reveled in the company of her loved ones. Shirley's proudest accomplishments were deeply rooted in community service and faith. A lifelong resident of Leslie County, she was a revered member of the Thousandsticks United Methodist Church and an integral part of the Thousandsticks Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Shirley held the esteemed position of Soil Conservation Officer with great pride, further exemplifying her dedication to bettering her community.

In the hearts of those who remain are memories that will forever cherish Shirley's presence. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Wayne Ramey, whom she shared countless beautiful moments since their union on September 17, 1974. Their shared legacy continues through their children: Larry Jeffers & wife Rita of Hyden, KY; Wayne "Bo" Ramey & wife Toye of Brandenburg, KY; John Ramey of Hyden, KY; Shellean Green and husband Paul of Grayson, KY; Debbie Wisdom of Hyden, KY; and Tammy Feltner & Mike of Hyden, KY. Shirley's nurturing spirit lives on through her eight cherished grandchildren - Joey Jeffers and fiancé Gwen Franza, Tyler Ramey, Owen Green, Courtney Morgan, Nick Feltner, Lauren Green, Ethan Feltner, and Karley Morgan - as well as her beloved great-grandchildren Carter Ramey and Caden Ramey. She leaves behind a treasure trove of memories for her family to hold dear. Amidst this time of mourning stands a vast circle of treasured relatives and friends whose lives were enriched by Shirley's grace and kindness. Though she may have departed from our earthly sight, her spirit resonates eternally within each heart touched by her warmth.

Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved mother Nellie Young Napier, cherished son Jerry Ramey, grandson Michael Wisdom, and sisters Mary Ann Pearcy & Jean Gross.
