Sam 'Meal Sack' Morgan

Sam “Meal Sack” Morgan, of Hyden, Kentucky, passed away on October 4, 2026, at Hazard ARH Medical Center. He was born on November 18, 1935, in Hyden, Kentucky.

Mr. Morgan will be remembered with love by his family and all who knew him.  He shared his life with his wife, Kathy Morgan, having been united in marriage on September 25, 1965. 

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, spending time with family and was a member of the Hyden Baptist Church in Hyden, Kentucky. Sam served his country honorably in the United State Army during the Korean War, was a self-employed carpenter and later employed by the Frontier Nursing Service. Sam was well known for his superior craftsmanship and disciplined work ethic.

He is also survived by his son, Samuel Morgan (Janie); and by his daughters, Lynn Morgan, Rebecca Morgan, and Kathryn Morgan (Leon Hollon Jr.). His family continued to grow through the generations, and he leaves behind his grandchildren, Chase, Emily, Olivia, Nathan, and Madeline, as well as his great-grandchildren, Cameron and Carter.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bige Morgan; his mother, Florence Lewis; his sisters, Betty Jean Roberts, Colleen Morgan, and Christine Morris; and his grandson, Morgan Allen Coulter.

The love of family was a lasting part of Sam Morgan’s life, and his memory will remain treasured by those who knew him best. May those who mourn his passing find comfort in the many shared moments that will continue to live on in their hearts.

Visitation will be held on October 7, 2026, from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home, 155 Hickory Street, Hyden, Kentucky 41749. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
