Rowena Morgan Barger

Rowena Morgan Barger, a beloved member of her community and cherished matriarch, passed away on Saturday, July 5, 2025 at the Hazard ARH Medical Center, Hazard, KY. She was 85 years old. Born on May 27, 1940, in Hyden, Kentucky, Rowena dedicated her life to her family and her community, leaving behind a legacy of love and devotion.

Rowena was a proud homemaker, and provided child care services from her home, touching the lives of many children and families throughout her career. She was a vibrant and active member of the Muncy Creek Baptist Church, where she found fellowship and support within her faith community.

Throughout her life, Rowena enjoyed a variety of hobbies, including gardening, baking, and spending quality time with her family. Her passion for flowers brightened the lives of those around her, as did her incredible baking, which brought everyone together during family gatherings. Rowena adored being involved in the lives of her children and grandchildren, reveling in every moment shared with them.

Rowena is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Hubert Barger, whom she married on June 15, 1958. Together, they built a beautiful family, which includes their four sons: Hubert Dale Barger and his wife, Deborah; Wallace "Wally" Barger and his wife, Maudi Ann; Don Barger and his wife, Peggy; and Jack Barger and his wife, Deronda. Rowena also cherished her relationships with her brothers, Mark Morgan and his wife, Betty Sue, and Hemmer Morgan, as well as her sister, Oda Ruth Minton and her husband, Johnny.

Rowena's legacy lives on through her seven grandchildren: Chris Barger (Ellen), Brittany Maggard (John), Eric Barger (Amber), Kendra Jones (Eric), India Kirstein (Dan), Brandy Hacker (Merle Wayne), and Jennifer Barger (Tony Sizemore). She was also the proud grandmother to fifteen great-grandchildren: Emily, Claire, Molly, Penny, Woods, Obie, Rowen, Rose, Tucker, Trinity, Tobey, Bristol, Bradley, Lily, Reese. Rowena will be missed dearly by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends, all of whom felt the warmth of her love.

Rowena Morgan Barger’s spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those she touched throughout her wonderful life.
