The obituary of Mr. Robert Dale "Cabbage Patch" Russell
Robert Dale "Cabbage Patch" Russell was born March 25, 1956 in Chicago, Illinois. He was the son of Betty Ruth Merrell and the late Hobert Russell. Robert attended Lees Jr. College and was a graduate of the Kentucky State Police Academy in 1987. Robert served honorably as a Kentucky State Trooper for 27 years. He became a valued member of the Leslie Co. community as a respected state trooper and a citizen. He was well known in the area and chances are if you were a resident you had engaged in a conversation with Robert. Robert was an avid motorcycle rider and enjoyed watching westerns, especially Gunsmoke. He had a passion for listening to music, especially the golden oldies and bluegrass. Robert was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Breathitt Co. He was affiliated with the Stinnett Church of Christ & the Lower Quicksand Baptist Church in Breathitt Co. Robert Dale Russell was preceded in death by his father, Hobert Russell, paternal grandparents, Greene and Stella Russell & maternal grandparents, Lee and Hermia Nicholson. Robert Dale Russell leaves the following relatives surviving: cherished mother, Betty Ruth Russell of Hopkinsville, Ky., beloved daughter, Shannon Halsey of Hazel Green, Ky., two beloved sisters, Janice Katherine "Kathy" Cunningham, Hopkinsville, Ky., Joyce Russell of Hopkinsville, Ky., one grandson, Jarrell, one nephew, Greg Abner and wife, Rhonda of Hopkinsville, Ky., and very special friend, Juanita Wells, whom he loved dearly & devoted friends Keisha Collett, Edna Howard, Jessica Lewis and Fern Mullins.
