Born on January 12, 1941, in Wooton KY. to the late Carl Melton and Marie Eversole Melton, Dickie led a remarkable life filled with professional achievements and cherished moments with his family and friends.
Throughout his distinguished career, Dickie made significant contributions to the auto sales industry. He embarked on his professional journey at the family business, Melton Motor in Hyden, KY. His passion for cars led him to work at reputable establishments such as White Chevrolet, Cardinal Chevrolet, Tincher Williams Chevrolet, and Mountain Ford. Even after retirement, Dickie continued to share his expertise by working as a vehicle transporter for various dealerships.
Family was of utmost importance to Dickie. He was known for his unwavering support for his loved ones and had a special place in his heart for children. Spending quality time with his family brought him immense joy. Family dinners and church events ignited his love for cooking while creating lasting memories with those he cherished.
Dickie possessed an outgoing nature that drew others towards him. With his welcoming demeanor and great sense of humor, he effortlessly engaged people in conversations on any topic. His ability to connect with others was truly remarkable.
In addition to his successful career and warm personality, Dickie had a wide range of hobbies and interests that brought vibrancy to his life. He was an avid fan of University of Kentucky basketball and University of Alabama football. Beyond sports, he found solace in activities like cooking, carpentry, and woodworking. These pursuits allowed him to express his creativity and provided him with a sense of contentment.
Dickie's proudest accomplishments were deeply rooted in his faith and commitment to service. A loyal and dedicated member of the Central Presbyterian Church EPC in Hyden, KY, Dickie actively participated in various church functions. He served as an elder and trustee and faithfully attended Bible study sessions. Additionally, he extended his support to the athletic endeavors of Leslie County & was a member of the Hyden Masonic Lodge # 664. demonstrating his passion for community involvement.
Dickie leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. He is survived by his devoted wife, Thelma Gambill Melton, who brought him immense happiness during the later years of his life. Beloved children Richard Paul Melton Jr., and Genia Marie Melton. Dickie also lovingly embraced Thelma's son Joey Stidham as part of their family.
Dickie's treasured grandchildren, Ann Marie Melton, Kannon Brock Melton, and Brodie Kyle Melton, brought him immeasurable joy. Their presence illuminated his life and created bonds that will forever remain unbreakable. He also had a special place in his heart for his treasured step-granddaughters, Josie Stone and Becca Cornett.
Dickie was preceded in death by his beloved wife Diana Napier Melton, who was also the mother of their children, beloved parents, Carl and Marie Eversole Melton, cherished twin brother, Bobby Melton & beloved sisters, Gerrie Tackett and Glenna Mosley.
A funeral service to celebrate Dickie's remarkable life will be held at 4:00 p.m. - Thursday - January 11, 2024 at Central Presbyterian Church EPC located at 137 Hickory Street in Hyden, KY. with John Newell officiating. Friends may call for visitation from 2:00 - until the funeral hour at 4:00 p.m. Full Masonic Rites will be observed at 3:00 p.m. by the Hyden, KY., Masonic Lodge # 664. The interment will be in the Napier Cemetery, Thousandsticks, Ky. The following will serve as pallbearers: Richard Paul Melton Jr., Kyle Napier, Brian Melton, Kannon Brock Melton, Brodie Melton & Joey Stidham. Family and friends will gather to honor and remember an extraordinary individual who touched countless lives with his warmth, kindness, and infectious laughter.
