Paul Washburn, beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at his residence in Hyden, Kentucky, on July 28, 2026, at the age of 80. Born on July 16, 1946, in Hyden, Kentucky, Paul called this cherished community his home.
Throughout his life, Paul was known for his friendly and talkative nature—a man who never met a stranger. His approachable demeanor, kind spirit, and genuine interest in others left a lasting impression within his family, circle of friends, and beyond.
Paul attended high school in his hometown, laying the foundation for a life rich with personal achievements and heartfelt relationships. He pursued a career in pest control, dedicating himself to serving others in his community through hard work and steady commitment.
A passionate collector, Paul took great joy in gathering antiques. Each item he found and preserved seemed to carry its own story—much like Paul himself. His hobby became yet another way he expressed curiosity and appreciation for the past, always eager to share his finds and their histories with friends and visitors.
Paul believed one of his proudest accomplishments were the roles he held within his family. He was above all else devoted to being a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, treasuring the moments he shared with each generation and taking pride in the legacy of love he built with them.
He is survived by his loving son, Lawrence Washburn (Melody); his devoted daughter, Paula Washburn; his caring sister, Susie Stapleton; and his special friend, Helen Morgan. Paul's unwavering affection and guidance will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Washburn, and his mother, Flora Hacker Washburn; his brothers, Mel Washburn, John Henry Washburn, Charlie Washburn, Dan Washburn, Bernie Washburn, and Bob Washburn; his sisters, Martha Napier, Rose Asher, Berniece Napier, and Lucy Youn; and his beloved son, Patrick Washburn.
Paul Washburn’s life was filled with kindness, commitment, and a generosity of spirit. His friends, family, and all blessed to have crossed paths with him will remember him with love and respect.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 3, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Walker Funeral Homes at 155 Hickory Street, Hyden, KY 41749. All who knew Paul are invited to gather in remembrance and celebration of his remarkable life.
