Norma Shirley Simpson

Norma Shirley Simpson was born December 11, 1936 at Stinnett, Kentucky to the union of Pearl Smith and Oma Morgan Smith. Mrs. Simpson was of the Christian faith. She met and married the love of her life, Raymond Milton Simpson, with whom she shared 23 years of marriage. Shirley as she was called by her family and friends, was a dedicated and loved teacher in the Leslie County School System for 41 years. She received her bachelor degree from Cumberland College and later went on to earn a Master degree from Union College. Shirley began her teaching career at the Stinnett Settlement School at Hoskinston, Kentucky and then Beech Fork Elementary until her retirement in 1998. Shirley love spending time with her children, grandchildren and family. During her free time she enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking and reading. She loved teaching and sharing her love for reading with her students. Two of her favorite books to share with her classed were, Where the Red Fern Grows and A Penny's Worth of Character. She loved to cook and often traded recipes with friends, colleagues, and family members. 

Shirley went to be with the Lord and Savior on August 27, 2025. 

In addition to her beloved parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Raymond, her treasured son, Pearl Edward Simpson, six brothers, Dalton, Hobert, Thomas, Orie, Clarence, and Evert Smith and two sisters, Jacqueline Gilbert and Faye Napier. 

She leaves behind her daughter, Colleen Marion and husband, Patrick Marion of Helton, Kentucky, daughter in law, Lisa Simpson of Lancaster, Kentucky, two cherished grandsons, Raymond Alexander Simpson and his wife, Breanna of Harrodsburg, Kentucky, Dawson Edward Simpson of King Bay GA, Two cherished granddaughters, Kyleigh Marion and Kaelynn Marion both of Helton, KY, and two great grandsons, Easton Reid Simpson, and Dotson Lee Simpson. Other survivors include, one brother, Ernest Smith and wife, Ann of London, Kentucky; one sister, Idella Hubbard and husband, Glyn of Williamsburg, Kentucky, sister in laws, Deloris Smith of Dayton, Ohio and Gladys Calderaro of Lewisburg, Tennessee; devoted friend of many years, Jewell Wilson of Helton, Kentucky; and also a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friend survive.  

Funeral: Monday, September 1, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. at the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home, Hyden, Kentucky

Minister: Glyn Hubbard

Interment: Bluegrass Memorial Gardens in Lexington, Kentucky

Pallbearers: Alex Simpson, Nathan Plato, Talon Williams, JD Brock, Kyleigh Marion and Kaelynn Marion

Visitation: Monday, September 1, 2025 at 1:00 P.M. at the Funeral Home Chapel
