Mildred Jean Muncy, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2025, at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky at the age of 93. Born on June 3, 1932, in Hyden, KY, the daughter of the late Farmer Asher & Winnie Muncy she was a lifelong resident of the area where she developed her deep roots within the community.

Jean was a devoted employee and dedicated her professional life to serving others. Her career began at the Frontier Nursing Service, where she worked from 1962 until 1979. She continued her service as an employee of the Leslie County Senior Citizens from 1979 to 1981 and then for the Leslie County Board of Education from 1982 until her retirement in 1995, a decision made due to the health needs of her loving husband, Harold Muncy.

An active member of the Anna C. Brush Memorial United Presbyterian Church for 75 years, Jean’s devotion to her faith was evident throughout her life. She was known for her self-sacrificing nature, exhibiting kindness and warmth to all who knew her. Her strong work ethic was matched only by her commitment to family, which remained her top priority.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Jean was cherished for her exceptional culinary skills, particularly her renowned chicken and dumplings that brought joy to countless family gatherings. She enjoyed flower gardening, crafts, traveling, and cooking, hobbies that brought her much happiness and allowed her to express her creativity.

Jean is survived by her loving children, Larry Dean Muncy and wife Pam, Matt Allen Muncy and wife Eve, and Martha Raye Collett and husband Dwayne. She was a proud grandmother to Charles Keen and wife Pam, Chris Muncy and wife Rebecca, Casey Hernandez and husband Kelvin, Aysha Muncy, and a great-grandmother to Preston Muncy, Bellamy Hernandez, Lindy Hernandez, and Bennett Hernandez, who is soon to join the family. She also leaves surviving step- grandchildren, Heather Sexton, Brandi Clark, David Belcher, Angie Blecher, step-great grandchildren, Jordan Combs, Lincoln Combs, Olivia Lewis, Tristen Begley, Hunter Belcher, Madison Belcher, Levi Belcher & Conner Hatfield.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Farmer Asher and Winnie Muncy; her loving and devoted husband, Harold Muncy to whom she was united in marriage to on October 5, 1950,her cherished daughter, Imojean Muncy; and her beloved siblings, Rev. John Asher, Curt Asher, Stanley Asher, Ollie Asher, Betty Maggard, Edna Harmon, along with her infant sisters, Dallie Asher and Betsy Asher.

Jean’s impact on her family, friends, and community will be remembered fondly and celebrated by all whose lives she touched. A funeral service to honor her remarkable life will be conducted  at Anna C. Brush Church in Hyden, Kentucky,  on Wedneday, November 5, 2024, beginning at 1:00 PM with Rev. Jerry Maggard, her nephew officiating & Curtis Asher, her nephew, reading the obituary.  The interment will follow in the Muncy Family Cemetery, Dryhill Road, Hyden, Ky.  Friends may call for visitation from 6-9Pm, Tuesday, November 4, 2025 at the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home.  

Mildred Jean Muncy leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and faith, her memory enduring in the hearts of those she cherished.
