Mary Belle Cornett Thacker

Mary Belle Thacker, born October 2, 1931, lovely and spry at age 92, peacefully passed away on Monday, April 29, 2024, in the middle of her conversation with her Jackson Manor roommate, Sally. Her parents Katie and Dover Cornett shared Mary with 11 other siblings in their small house in Wooton Kentucky.  At age 19 Mary married  a dashing young airman, James Thacker (1922-1999), a proud World War II Veteran. Together they shared 49 wonderful years and had  3 children: Sarah Katherine Patterson (nee Wayne Patterson), Charles David (and his wife Cathy), and Thomas; 6 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and too many beloved nephews, nieces, great-nephews and nieces to count. Mary is survived by her sisters, Jesse Cornett Joseph of   London Kentucky and Mart Sturgill of Hamilton Ohio. Mary also loved her animals, caring for any puppy or kitten that came her way. Yet, besides all her accomplishments as a military wife, mother, sister, grandmother, hard-worker, quilter, and friend, she was always firmly dedicated to those she loved, family or not.  For that, we will always be grateful. 

Mary, you will be missed more than any words can ever express. 

The viewing will be this Saturday May 4 at 11:00 for family and noon for the public. The service and burial will follow at 1:00 PM with Terry Cornett officiating. The following will serve as Pallbearers: Scott Cornett, Doug Cornett, Danny Cornett, Steve Davidson, Bobby Caldwell, Noah Sturgill, James Fuetterer and David Thacker, Honorary Pallbearer: Todd Cornett.  Please join us at the Walker Funeral Home, 155 Hickory Street, Hyden Kentucky and then a short drive to the John R. Hendrix family cemetery in Wooton so we can give our everlasting farewell to this amazing woman .
