Martin "Bones" Shepherd

May 12, 1935 — April 15, 2019

The obituary of Mr. Martin Shepherd

Martin Shepherd Jr., lovingly known as “Bones” was born on May 12, 1935 in Lynch, Kentucky to the late Jim and Eliza Shepherd.  Bones lived until April 15, 2019, and we say lived because that is what he did!  He lived each day to the fullest and appreciated every single moment no matter how great or small.  He was a life-long resident of Leslie County except for the last 13 years living in Corbin, Kentucky.  Bones was the jack of all trades; he joined the U.S. Marine Corp in 1953 only to serve his time there and then enlist in the U.S. Army in 1956.  He worked as a medic and traveled the world, caused a little mischief, and loved Germany.  By occupation he was a coal miner most of his life, a businessman the other, and a night watchman later.  In 1964 he met the love of his life Virginia and they were married August 25, 1964 and spent 54 years loving each other unconditionally.    They have 2 sons Keith (Esperanza) Shepherd of Corbin, KY and Kenny (Tammy) Shepherd of Georgetown, KY.  Two daughters Linda (Henry) Staley of Oxford, Pennsylvania and Crystal (Thomas) Shepherd of Corbin, KY.  Ten grandchildren: Haley Shepherd, Dustin (Sarah) Shepherd, LeKeisha (Jon) Shepherd, Austin Shepherd, Maggie (Austin) Lawson, Chad (Mackenzie) Shepherd, Clarke Staley, Mary-Beth Staley, and Maddox Bays.  Six great-grandchildren.  All of which he leaves surviving as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Bones is preceded in death by his brothers Stanley, Curtis, and Jack.  His sisters Hazel, Mary, Georgia, and Elizabeth. May he ride his John Deer mowing every single lawn in heaven, holding a cup of coffee, smoking his cigars, wearing his Trump hat, and a smile.
