Margie Smith

Margie Smith, a cherished homemaker and beloved matriarch, passed away peacefully on December 25, 2025, at her residence in Nancy, Kentucky. She was 80 years old. She was born on September 10, 1945, in Leslie County, Kentucky, to Matt and Lucy Morgan, who predeceased her along with her brothers, Lonzo, Tinsley, and Roscoe Morgan, her sister, Ella Jane Hatfield, and her infant daughter, Deborah Lynn Smith.

Margie was a devoted wife to her husband, Orphus Smith, with whom she shared 62 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they created a warm and loving home filled with laughter and joy. She raised three children—two sons, Gary Smith (Sandy) and Chris Smith (Amy), and one daughter, Tammy Smith McFull (Randy)—instilling in them the values of compassion and care for others.

Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her immediate family, as she took immense joy in caring for her ten grandchildren: Kayla, Joshua, Zachary, Cody, Kelsey, Hannah, Savannah, Jacob, Amy, and Heather. Margie's heart grew even bigger with the addition of her eight great-grandchildren, Jase, Finlee, Micah, Levy, McKenzie, Nate, Jaylee, Jackson, and the one on the way, Scarlett. Each of them held a special place in her heart, and she treasured every moment spent with her family.

Margie was not only devoted to her family but also had a deep faith that shaped her life. She loved going to church, where she found fellowship and strength. Her commitment to her spiritual community reflected her caring nature and dedication to serving others.

Margie enjoyed traveling, exploring new places, and making lasting memories with her family. She embraced every opportunity to bring her loved ones together, weaving a rich tapestry of shared experiences that will continue to resonate within her family's hearts.

She is survived by her loving husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, one brother, Mack Morgan (Becky), one sister, Lorene Baker, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss her dearly.

Margie Smith’s legacy of love and compassion will live on through all those who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be remembered for her kind heart, infectious smile, and unwavering devotion to family and faith.

Funeral: Tuesday, December 30, 2025 at 1:00 P.M. at the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home, Hyden, KY

Ministers: Jerry Maggard, Chuck Elam and John Bruce

Interment: Smith Family Cemetery, Stinnett, KY.

Visitation: Monday, Dec. 29th at 6:00 P.M. at the Funeral Home Chapel
