Lonnie Smith, a beloved member of his community and a master craftsman, passed away on July 14, 2025, at Adventhealth Manchester. He was born on January 3, 1939, in Red Bird, Kentucky. Lonnie lived a life rich in skills and love, marking his years with notable accomplishments and cherished relationships.

With a career as a master craftsman in carpentry, plumbing, and various handywork, Lonnie earned respect and admiration for his talent and dedication. His hands built not only structures but also memories that his family and friends will hold dear. A high school graduate, he honed his skills through hard work and a passion for creating a better environment for those around him.

Lonnie's personality was characterized by kindness, honesty, and an outgoing spirit. He positively touched the lives of many, forging deep bonds with his family and friends. He served two years in the Army, receiving an honorable discharge, highlighting his commitment to serving his country.

Lonnie took great pride in his role as a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his daughters, Melinda Jackson and her husband David, Lannette Smith, and Alonda Gail Kilburn and James Campbell. Also mourning his loss are his brothers, Raymond Smith and his wife Nancy, Kenneth Smith and his wife Janice, and his sisters, Edith Smith and Janet Sizemore.

He will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Kayla Mosley and Drew, Chad Jackson and Heather, Dylan Smith and Lexie, Blake Jackson and Brittany, and Ava Campbell. He was also a proud great-grandfather to five: Jayden, Tyler, Karli, Rhyker, and Emblyn.

Lonnie was preceded in death by his father, Claude Smith; his mother, Linda Jane Slusher Smith; his beloved wife, Violet C. Smith; and his brothers Vernon Smith and Homer Smith, as well as his sister, Gail Smith Asher.

A visitation will be held at Bowens Creek Baptist Church in Essie, Kentucky, on July 18, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM on the same day.

Lonnie Smith's legacy will live on through the love and memories shared by his family and the numerous lives he impacted throughout his years. His warmth and kindness will be dearly missed.

Interment: Smith Cemetery - Bowens Creek (Essie), KY 

*Military Rites will be performed by the Leslie Co. DAV Chapter #133*
