Lon W. Wilson

September 23, 1936 — March 2, 2020

Lon W. Wilson was born on September 23, 1936 and departed this life on March 2, 2020 at his home in Somerset, Ky at the age of 83 years.  Lon was the son of the late Carl and Nell Wilson and the husband of Celeste Shaffer Wilson.  Lon attended and graduated from Leslie County High School in 1955 and Cumberland College in 1961.  While at Cumberland College he enjoyed playing both basketball and baseball.  Lon began his work career as an educator and a coach and then transitioned to a sales representative for Central School Supplies where he worked for 22 years.  Lon was an avid reader and sports fan and loved both U.K. and the Cincinnati Reds.  He always looked forward to attending the annual Homecoming at Beech Fork United Methodist church and spending time with his Mom, Dad, Brothers, Sister and family.  Lon had a passion for the lake and loved spending time at his lake house on Lake Cumberland.  He was very involved in the lives of his family and he was very proud of his grandchildren.  He loved listening and watching his grandchildren participate in sports and performing arts.  Lon loved spending time with his devoted wife Celeste and beloved cat Yogi. 

 
Mr. Lon W. Wilson was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Nell Wilson; loving sister, Judy Lay; sister-in-law, Gail Wilson; niece-Candace Wilson; and many other beloved family members.
 
Mr. Lon W. Wilson leaves the following relatives surviving; wife, Celeste Shaffer Wilson of Somerset, Ky; daughters, Valerie Pedersen of Carmel, In. and Tonya Farler and son-in-law whom he thought of as a son, Freddy Farler of Hyden, Ky.; brothers, Herman Wilson and wife, Jewell of Helton, Ky., John Wilson of Helton, Ky., Wendell Wilson and wife, Dianna of Helton, Ky., Ronnie Wilson and wife, Charlene, of Helton, Ky., two brothers-in-law Kenneth Lay of Barbourville, Ky. and Mike Shaffer of London, Ky.; one sister-in law, Cathy Shaffer of London, Ky.; four grandchildren, Katelyn Farler-Pugh and husband, Peyton Pugh of Somerset, Ky.; Alex Farler of Hyden, Ky., Hannah Pedersen of Carmel, In., and Lydia Pedersen of Carmel, In.; as well as a host of treasured nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
 

Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at 1:00 P.M. at the Upper Beech Fork United Methodist Church at Helton, KY. with Rev. Steve Wilson officiating. Visitation will also be held on Wednesday at the Church beginning at 12:00 Noon. Interment will follow the funeral service at the Wilson-Howard Family Cemetery at Helton, KY. The following will serve as pallbearers; Alex Farler, Peyton Pugh, Brett Wilson, Terrill Wilson, John Carl Wilson, Greg Lay & Byron Wilson. The following will serve as honorary pallbearers; Herman Wilson, John Wilson, Wendell Wilson, Ronnie Wilson, Freddy Farler & Mike Shaffer
