Lois Ann Coots, a cherished member of the Leslie County community, passed away on May 28, 2026, at Wells Hospice Care in Hazard, Kentucky. Born on August 4, 1966, in Leslie County, Kentucky, Lois lived a life marked by warmth, dedication, and a vibrant spirit that touched everyone she encountered.
Lois embraced education not only in her personal journey but also through her professional career. She devoted many years to working at Hayes Lewis Elementary, where her friendly, caring, and outgoing nature endeared her to students, colleagues, and parents alike. Her commitment to nurturing young minds was an extension of the loving and supportive environment she created for her own family.
Lois found profound joy in spending time with her family, grandchildren, students, and in attending church. These moments were not mere pastimes but the very essence of her being. She was particularly proud of her role as a mother and grandmother, a distinction she held closest to her heart.
Her surviving family includes her beloved sons, Jonathan Huff and his wife Rebekah of Richmond, Kentucky, and Danny Huff and his wife Megan of Knoxville, Tennessee. She is also lovingly remembered by her brother Rick Coots (Tina), as well as her sisters Rita Coots, Darlene Coots, and Corene Trent (Earl). Lois’s legacy continues vibrantly through her grandchildren, River Huff, Deemie Huff, Nolan Huff, and Logan Huff.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Burvel and Virginia Coots; her brothers, Steve and Roger Coots; infant brother Melvin Coots; and her special mother-in-law, Dorothy Huff. Their memories remain a treasured part of her story.
Lois’s life exemplified kindness, resilience, and an unyielding commitment to family and community. Those who knew her will forever carry the light she brought into their lives. Her memory remains a blessing, a testament to a life well-lived with love, dedication, and grace.
A visitation to honor and remember Lois Ann Coots will be held on June 2, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home located at 155 Hickory Street, Hyden, Kentucky. The funeral service will follow on June 3, 2026, beginning at 12:00 p.m. at the same location with Rev. Billy Joe Lewis and Rev. Don Kilburn officiating and Alan Coots reading the obituary.
