Leroy Howard Mays, a cherished father, grandfather, and beloved member of his family and community, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2026. His life was marked by a steadfast dedication to his loved ones and an enduring spirit that touched all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Born to Albert Mays and Sylvia Roberts Mays, Leroy carried forward the legacy of his parents with dignity and strength. Throughout his life, he experienced the profound joys and inevitable sorrows that shape a man’s journey. He was united in marriage to Faith Mays and later a companion to Bessie Harris, both of whom preceded him in death, leaving behind memories of deep love and partnership.

Leroy was a devoted father to his son, Russell Lee Mays, Sr., who survives him along with a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. These cherished family members were a source of pride and happiness for Leroy, who found immense fulfillment in watching his family grow across generations.

His family tree also includes those who have passed on before him: his beloved grandson, Russell Mays, Jr., daughter-in-law Linda Harris, and numerous brothers and sisters, who each hold a special place in the hearts of those who mourn his loss.

As a man who valued family and community, Leroy’s legacy is etched in the stories shared by those who knew him best. His passing leaves an indelible mark on his surviving family, especially his son and the many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will continue to honor his memory.

Though Leroy Howard Mays is no longer with us, his spirit endures in the love and respect of those he held dear. He will be remembered as a pillar of strength and kindness, a man whose life enriched the lives of many and whose memory will be treasured dearly.
