Laura Collins Cottrell

Laura Collins Cottrell, born on March 10, 1951, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2026, in Hazard, Kentucky. Her life, spanning 75 years, was marked by love, devotion, and a deep commitment to her family and those fortunate enough to know her. She was born at Hyden, Ky the daughter of the late Roe Davidson and the late Edna Sizemore Davidson.

Laura’s roots were firmly planted in the community where she was born. Throughout her life, she exemplified kindness, strength, and unwavering support for her loved ones. Family was always at the heart of Laura’s world, and she took immense pride in their accomplishments and happiness.

She enjoyed travel and she especially appreciated visiting the state of Tennessee. Laura had a love of shopping and was always buying for others before herself. Laura was a life-long resident of Leslie County, and had been a member of the Davidson Fork Church of God at Thousandsticks, KY.

She is survived by her second husband, Vernon Cottrell, beloved children: her sons, Brandon Collins & (Ashley) and Chris Cottrell, and her daughter, Pamela Collins. Laura’s legacy also lives on in her cherished grandchildren—Arianna Daniels, Kaylee Daniels, Skylar Daniels, Grayson Daniels, Bristol Swartz, Jordan Collins, and Alexis Collins—each of whom brought immeasurable joy to her life. Her dear sisters, Faye Sizemore, and Shirley Collins, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, also mourn her passing and will carry forth her memory with deep affection.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, James Collins, one granddaughter, Mahala Daniels, brothers, Jerry Davidson, Marrow Davidson, Sister, Crystal Osborne and special friend Eliza Feltner.

Those closest to Laura knew her as a dedicated and loving mother, grandmother, and sister. She had an innate ability to bring comfort and warmth to every gathering, and her presence was a source of stability and guidance. Laura’s gentle spirit and steadfast nature left a lasting impression on all who crossed her path. Her wisdom, compassion, and generosity were gifts she shared freely, creating a legacy of love and unity within her family.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during the visitation, which will be held on Monday, August 11, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Walker Funeral Homes, LLC, 155 Hickory Street, Hyden, Kentucky. A funeral service to honor Laura’s remarkable life will follow at 2:00 PM in the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home Chapel, with services concluding at 3:00 PM.

Laura Collins Cottrell’s life was a testament to enduring love and dedication. As we gather to remember her, we honor the profound impact she had on everyone who was privileged to know her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, and she will be profoundly missed.
