Johnny Clay Horton

July 7, 1937 — August 21, 2022

Mr. Johnny Clay Horton, age 85, of Hyden, KY. passed away Sunday, August 21, 2022 at the Mary Breckinridge ARH.  Johnny was born in Manchester, KY. on July 7, 1937, a son of the late John M. Horton and Opha Swafford Horton.  Johnny grew up in a loving home with his brothers and sister and learned how to work hard.  After graduating high school Johnny attended the Bowling Green College of Commerce in Bowling Green, KY.   Johnny taught Typing and Business English at Leslie County High School for four years.  Johnny was employed by the Kentucky Department of Social Services as a Caseworker in Leslie County.  He retired in 2002 after 38 years of service. 

Johnny enjoyed gardening, fishing, cooking and many other activities after retirement.  He mainly spent his retirement attending to the needs of his brothers, children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.  Johnny was a member of the Hyden Baptist Church and the Leslie County Fish and Game Club.

Johnny was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gracie Finley Horton; his son, Jonathan Jeffrey Horton; his sister, Juanita Faye Franks; his brothers, Robert Ray Horton, Charles Glay Horton and William Joseph Horton.

Johnny Clay Horton leaves the following relatives surviving: his son, Shawn Horton and wife Ashley and their children, Emma, Aleeah, John and Willow; his grand-daughter, Breann Simmons and husband Derek and their son, Nathan;his grand-daughter Melinda Horton and her children, Mallory and Jayden; his grand-daughter, Miranda Williams and her sons, Dakota and Collyn.  Johnny also leaves surviving a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends, as well as his special friend, Georgia Hazelwood.

Funeral: Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at 7:00 P.M. at the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home in Hyden, KY.

Minister: Johnny's nephew, Robbie Horton

Time and Place of Visitation: Wednesday - August 24, 2022 - 5:00 p.m. - until the funeral hour at 7:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home

A private Burial will take place at the Hurricane Cemetery - Hyden, KY.
