John Wayne Dixon

Wooton, KY

John Wayne Dixon, a retired coal miner, passed away on May 17, 2023 at his residence in Wooton, KY. He was born on November 4, 1952, in Hyden, KY. He graduated from Leslie County High School and worked as a coal miner for Whitaker Coal Company for twenty years.

John was a friendly and easygoing individual who loved to make people laugh. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Donna France Dixon whom he married on May 17, 1975. Their children include Jonathan and Monica of Bristol, TN  and Tracey and Greg of Hazard, KY. His treasured grandchildren Emily, Rachel, Lincoln, and Hudson were the light of his life.

Aside from spending time with his family, John enjoyed hunting, gardening, mowing grass and helping out neighbors with his garden goods. He was a generous individual who always put others before himself.

A graveside service will be held at Whispering Pines Cemetery located on Polls Creek Rd., Wooton, KY on May 19th at 1:00 p.m. with Travis France officiating.

John was preceded in death by Johnny "Poppy" Lewis (Maternal Grandfather), Burley and Gertrude Lewis Dixon (Parents), Maggie Jean Honeycutt (Sister), Wanda Howard (Sister), James Dixon (Brother), and Will France (Father-In-Law). His surviving family includes Lorraine Wells France of Wooton, KY (Mother-In-Law), Danny France and Jeannette (Brother-In-Law & his wife), Terry France and Nancy (Brother-In-Law & his wife), Phyllis Steele (Sister-In-Law), Debbie France Bromling and Larry (Sister-In-Law & her husband), and Randy Dixon (Cousin whom he considered as a brother). He also had a special relationship with his nephew Joe Howard.

John Wayne Dixon will always be remembered for his kind heart, generosity, and love for his family. His memory will forever live on through them.
