Joan Sizemore
March 12, 1954 - April 24, 2021
Joan came into this world on March 12, 1954 rocking an extra chromosome and
forever changing the Dobber family. The third child of Robert Lee and Eileen Gabbard
Sizemore, she was the epitome of love and joy. She was a real life baby doll and
playmate to her siblings: Linda, Bobby, Cathy, Jeanie, Goldie and Billy. She loved
playing with her baby dolls and working puzzles. She could “Hoshay” (crotchet) all day
long and often did. She and her mother spent hours watching The Price’s Right, Days
of Our Lives, and the Baby Story. On many days, she worked at her typewriter and
asked for a cigarette, peanut butter “Bilkshake” (milkshake), or cheesecake.
Joan was the life of every party or family get together. She always provided the
entertainment singing, playing guitar, and dancing. It was not unheard of for her to ask
to go to the club. She was Elvis’ biggest fan, often reminding us, “He not dead, he
alive!” She also enjoyed listening to “Fulla Hill” (Faith Hill) and “Coggie Rogers” (Kenny
Rogers). Joan loved taking big vacations, but was just as excited to stay at any “Hotel-
Motel”. She would never let us forget her birthday, often starting to remind us of it
immediately after Christmas. She would tell us, “I’m an old chick, Honey!”
To her nieces and nephews, she was a playmate, baby sitter, and protector. She
was larger than life, our JO-JO. She taught us so much more than we could ever learn
at any school, even how to spell “out” – “I-U-P”. She taught our family the true meaning
of Love -- pure and unconditional. Her laugh was contagious and her smile brightened
every room. She truly was our gift from God.
