Jerry Kyle Hensley, a cherished member of the Hyden community, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2025, at the age of 72 in Wooton, Kentucky. He was born on September 24, 1952, in Hyden, where he grew up and later established himself as a devoted son, father, brother, and grandfather.
Jerry was a proud high school graduate who dedicated a significant part of his life to the coal mining industry, demonstrating an unwavering work ethic that reflected his roots. His passion for his work and his commitment to providing for his family were hallmarks of his character.
Beyond his profession, Jerry had a wide range of hobbies and interests that brought him joy and fulfillment. He cherished moments spent fishing and took great pride in his collections of knives, guns, and old currency. A true sports enthusiast, he had an ardent love for Kentucky Basketball, always cheering for his team with enthusiasm. Jerry also shared a special bond with his beloved dog, Smokey Taylor, who brought him comfort and companionship.
Jerry is survived by his granddaughter, Kylie Hensley, as well as his brothers, Randy Vanover and John Astor Hensley (Trina). He held a special place in his heart for his nieces, including Simone Vanover, Ginger Hensley, Brittany Wilder (Jon), and Melisa Napier (Shannon); one special great nephew: James, who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Astor Hensley and Bessie Causey Hensley; as well as his son: Jerry Kyle Hensley II, and two brothers: Douglas Dwayne Hensley and Kenneth Wade Hensley.
Visitation will be held on August 27, 2025, from 12:00 noon to 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM, at Walker Funeral Home in Hyden, Kentucky.
Jerry Kyle Hensley leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and the warmth of family ties that will forever be cherished by those who knew him. He will be remembered not just for his accomplishments but for the kindness and laughter he shared with family and friends throughout his life.
