        Mrs. Jean Whitaker Maggard born August 3, 1929 departed this life on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at the Greg & Noreen Wells Hospice Care Center, Hazard, KY.  She was 94 years old.  Jean was born at Thousandsticks, KY the daughter of the late Chester Bailey & Lucretia Napier.  Jean had a very distinguished career in the medical profession.  She worked as a surgical scrub technician at Mary Breckinridge Hospital for 22 years.  Jean was a devoted member of the Central Presbyterian Church EPC, Hyden, KY. She served on the session and as a trustee.  Jean enjoyed quilting, sewing, flower gardening, shopping --especially antique shops and collectibles market.  She was a life-long resident of Leslie Co.  Mrs. Jean Whitaker Maggard was preceded in death by her parents, loving and devoted, husband, Charlie Maggard,  treasured granddaughter, Jamie Elizabeth Whitaker, brothers, Harold, Marion, Crit & Walter Bailey, infant twins, Earl & Pearl Bailey, sisters, Cleo Jones, Rose Mitchell, Bess Mitchell, Nell Worley, Fran Aeriola and Ethel Bailey Johnson.  Mrs. Jean Whitaker Maggard leaves the following relatives surviving: two beloved sons. James Arthur "Jimmy" Whitaker & Diane of Hyden, KY., Timothy "Tim Whitaker" and wife, Carla of Essie, Ky., three beloved daughters, Arlene Hensley and Rev.
