Mr. James Boggs was born, September 18, 1940 at (Big Fork) Yeaddiss, Kentucky. He was the son of the late, Nick Boggs & the late, Mattie Pennington Boggs. James passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at the Hazard ARH Medical Center, Hazard, Kentucky. James was 82 years old. James had been a life long resident of Leslie County. James was a Veteran of the U.S. Army where he served his country honorably for 3 years.  He was a retired coal miner of 34 years. He had a very distinguished career in coal mining, having  worked at Blue Diamond Coal & Leeco Coal Company as a General Mine Foreman. James had a sincere interest in community development and improving the lives of all Leslie Countians.  He served one term as a Leslie County magistrate of district #3. James loved hunting, fishing, 4-wheeling, gardening, working in his Church and loved being with his family.

James was preceded in death by his beloved parents, four brothers, Ben, Forester, Johnny & Carl Boggs and two sisters, Lelia Mae Caldwell & Beulah Caldwell. He leaves the following relatives surviving; his loving & devoted wife Joyce Coots Boggs (May 21st would have been their 57th wedding anniversary), Yeaddiss, KY, one cherished son, James Scott Boggs (Vicki), Hyden, KY, one cherished daughter, Debbie Williams (Greg), Yeaddiss, KY, four sisters, Shirley Lewis, Irene Boggs, Gail Baker (Clayton) & Donna Kay Farler, three treasured granddaughters, Emily Boggs (Christian), Stacey Harper (Tony) & Nikki Couch, two treasured grandsons, James Williams (Courtney) & Joseph Williams, one treasured great grandson, Daxton Williams, four cherished children whom he raised as his own grandchildren, Lee Collett, Chelsey Fields, Brandy Collett & Dylan Collett, special friend, Don Kilburn, special niece, Ruth Ellen Kilburn Elenes & special sister-in-law, Lorraine Boggs. Also a host of other relatives & friends survive.

Services:

Funeral: Saturday, May 13, 2023 at 1:00 P.M. at the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ, Yeaddiss, KY.

Minister: Rev. Don Kilburn

Interment: Coots Family Cemetery, Yeaddiss, KY.

*Full military rites will be performed by the Leslie Co. DAV Chapter #133*

Pallbearers: Greg Williams, James Williams, Joey Williams, Glenn Joseph, Benny Boggs & Christian Smith

Honorary Pallbearers: Sherl Kelly, Rufus Kelly & Daxton Williams

Visitation: Friday, May 12, 2023 at 6:00-9:00 P.M. at the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home, Hyden, KY.
