Ida Mullins Asher

January 18, 1930 — April 14, 2026

London (formerly of Hyden)

Ida was born on January 18, 1930, in Beverly, Kentucky, to Walter and Ollie Mullins. After graduating from Redbird High School, she was awarded a full scholarship to Indiana University by Flat Creek Church of Beverly, Kentucky. She attended Indiana University for one year before returning home for summer break, where she met and married the love of her life just six weeks later, her husband, Perle Asher. They shared over 50 wonderful years of marriage.

Ida and Perle later relocated to Lexington, Kentucky, where Ida completed her education degree at Eastern Kentucky University. During that time, she also worked as an elementary school teacher while helping Perle with his hotel business. They eventually returned to Leslie County, where they opened an IGA grocery store and other businesses. Ida continued her career in education as a teacher at Leslie County High School and later served as a guidance counselor for many years until her retirement.

Ida was a respected and upstanding member of the Leslie County community and was honored with the Most Appreciative Citizen Award. She was a member of the Lions Club and the Daughter of the Nile, associated with Shriners International. She was also a faithful member of Flat Creek Church of the Brethren in Big Creek, Kentucky; Muncy Creek Baptist Church in Hyden, Kentucky; and First Baptist Church of London, Kentucky.

Ida had many talents and passions. She was an excellent quilter, knitter, gardener, fisherman, as well as an outstanding cook. However, her greatest joy in life was spending time with her loving family.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Ollie Mullins; her beloved husband, Perle Asher; her stepson, Edward Asher; her siblings, Annie Wood, Georgia Ledford, Ray Mullins, Roy Mullins, D.C. Mullins, and Raleigh Mullins; and her half-brother, Carlo Carloftis.

Ida is survived by her daughter and granddaughter, Ida Michelle Mosley and her husband, Travis Wayne Caldwell, of London, Kentucky; Gina Lynn Asher and her lifelong partner, William Lee Parks, also of London, Kentucky. She is also survived by her sister, Dora-jean Mullins Douglas; her stepchildren, Gracie and Bill; her beloved grandchildren, Taylor Mosley, Caitlyn Caldwell, Lauren Caldwell, Cara Caldwell, and Woodrow Conary; as well as her special great-great-grandson, Sutton Reed Caldwell, whom she loved dearly, and other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren along with a host of nieces and nephews

Visitation at 2:00 P.M. with funeral service at 3:00 P.M. all at the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home in Hyden, Kentucky, on Saturday, April 18, 2026.  Final resting place will be at Hurricane Cemetery.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all doctors, home health services, caregivers, and hospice staff who helped provide such compassionate care for their beloved mother and grandmother.

Though she is no longer with us, the love she gave so freely will remain in our hearts forever. Her greatest legacy is the love she poured into her family, a love that will continue to live on for generations.

Psalm 23

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
