Hollis Wayne Caldwell, born on August 10, 1948, in Beverly, Kentucky, passed away on August 28, 2024, at Baptist Health in Corbin, Kentucky. Hollis lived a life characterized by hard work, devotion, and a profound connection with his family.
By occupation, Hollis was a retired coal miner and carpenter, having also been a former employee of the Leslie County Jail. His dedication to his work is reflected in the skills he honed over the years, contributing to the well-being of his community and providing for his family with unwavering commitment.
Beyond his professional life, Hollis had diverse interests that enriched his days. He found joy in playing the guitar and writing gospel hymns, activities that allowed him to express his faith and creativity. Gardening and working outside were passions he cherished, bringing him peace and a sense of accomplishment. He appreciated quiet evenings watching Matlock and In the Heat of the Night, as well as staying informed through Fox News and News Max. An engaging conversationalist, Hollis often enjoyed discussing politics, sharing insights and opinions with those around him.
Hollis had a special bond with his family and friends, particularly with his roommate and friend, Eugene Farmer, who shared in his daily life and interests. He is survived by his cherished son, Dana Caldwell (Angelia) of Helton, Kentucky; two brothers, Hurlis Caldwell (Zita) of Bledsoe, Kentucky, and Roger Caldwell (Karen) of Corbin, Kentucky; two sisters, Francis Jackson (Charles) of Manchester, Kentucky, and Pam Maggard (Wayne) of Wooton, Kentucky; and one treasured granddaughter, Kinsey Rae Caldwell.
Hollis was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Millard Caldwell and Ida Short Caldwell, his devoted wife of 57 years, Phoebe Brock Caldwell, and his cherished daughter, Janet Denise Sparks.
As we remember Hollis Wayne Caldwell, we celebrate a life lived with passion, dedication, and love for those he held dear. His legacy endures in the hearts of his family and friends, who will carry forward his memory with reverence and affection.
