Freida Napier, a beloved member of her community and a cherished matriarch of her family, passed away on May 4, 2025, at Well's Hospice Center in Hazard, Kentucky. She was 65 years old. Born on November 19, 1959, in Asher, Kentucky, Freida lived a life filled with love, laughter, and a deep commitment to both her family and her faith.
An active member of the Straightway Church of the Living God in Hyden, Ky., Freida found great solace and purpose in her spiritual community. Her dedication to her beliefs was reflected not only in her church involvement but also in the way she nurtured her family and friends, always bringing warmth and kindness into their lives.
Freida was a multifaceted individual, who embraced a range of interests that enriched her life and the lives of those around her. She had a passionate love for flower gardening, which allowed her to express her creativity and affection for nature. Her talents extended to woodworking and fishing, hobbies she often enjoyed alongside her family. Freida found joy in the great outdoors, especially when riding side-by-side with friends and family or playing in the sun with her great-grandchildren.
Her family was the cornerstone of her existence, serving as her greatest pride and joy. Freida was the devoted daughter of Haley Asher and the loving wife of Terry Napier, with whom she shared 25 wonderful years of marriage. Her daughter, Melissa Pennington, and her grandchildren—Candace & Stephen, Brooklyn & Aaron, Blake & Rikki, Trinity, and Jason Ray—held a special place in her heart, complemented by her great-grandchildren, Lucas and Italy, who were her heart. Freida also nurtured close ties with her nephew Justin and Timothy, whom she regarded as sons, and took immense joy in her sibling relationships with Theo, Dorothy, Lynn, and their 12 other siblings.
Freida's life was marked by love and enduring connections, which included special friendships with Dallas and Serena Nolan and their daughters, as well as a strong support system provided by her church family. Freida also had a special connection with her beloved dog, Penny. Freida's legacy will continue to resonate with those whose lives she touched during her time on earth.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jr. Collett, her son, Jason Bowling, her grandparents Mike and Polly Brock, her sister, Sandra K. Brock, her brother, Omus Collett, and her mother and father-in-law, Martha Emma and Don Napier. Their memory will forever be honored by all who knew her.
Freida Napier leaves behind a profound legacy of love, faith, and resilience that will be sorely missed but will continue to inspire and guide all those who loved her.
