Ernest Forester Slusher, a devoted family man and former coal miner, passed away on August 7, 2025, at the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky, at the age of 74. Born on December 21, 1950, he embraced life with an infectious humor and an outgoing spirit that warmed the hearts of all who knew him.

Ernest was not just known for his dedication to his work as a coal miner but also for his vibrant personality. He was a jokester, always ready to share a laugh and bring joy to those around him. His talkative nature combined with his friendly demeanor made him a beloved figure in his community.

His family was Ernest's pride and joy, and he found his greatest fulfillment in being a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife: Donna Slusher; sons: Nickie Slusher and wife Poshia, Charlie Gibson and wife Brooke, and Ernest Thomas Slusher. His daughters, Chrissy Coffey and husband Chucky, Lauren Buxton and wife Ashley, and Elizabeth Burke, to carry on his legacy of love and laughter. He is also survived by his two brothers, Dwayne Slusher and Jerry Slusher, and four sisters, Geneva Kelly, Carol Carpenter, Norma Jean Morris, and Sally Slusher, who will cherish his memory. He also has surviving step-children: Jonathon Gambrel and wife Paige and Rebekah Morgan along with one brother-in-law: Roger Moore.

Ernest's generous spirit extended to a special friend, Gary Maggard and lifelong friend and nephew: Dillard Stevens, with whom he shared many cherished moments. His grandchildren, Jayden, Landon, Brian, Victor, Gypsey, Jessica, Dustin, Katlyn, Arabella, Avery, Everly, Presley, Jamison, and Ellie will remember their grandfather fondly, as will his seven great-grandchildren, with one more on the way. He leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews who were graced by his kindness and humor.

Ernest's life was rooted in strong family bonds and cherished relationships. He was preceded in death by his parents: Robert Lee Slusher Sr. and Allie Mahaley Frye; sister: Christine Kelly; three brothers: Robert Lee Slusher Jr, Arnold Ray Slusher, and Roy Gene Slusher; who provided the foundation of love that Ernest built upon throughout his life.
