Elizabeth Smallwood, a cherished lifelong resident of Leslie County, left this world peacefully on December 23, 2025, in Hazard, Kentucky, at the age of 91. Born on January 8, 1934, Elizabeth was a loving wife and devoted homemaker whose kindness and warmth enveloped all those fortunate enough to know her. She is remembered for the special moments she created with her family and friends, each day infused with love and laughter.
Elizabeth's journey through life brought many joys, particularly in her hobbies and interests. Her passion for embroidery was well-known among her loved ones, and she always approached her projects with the same dedication she applied to her family. A fondness for shopping and a flair for using red lipstick added a vibrant touch to her personality, and she was often seen dancing joyfully, embodying the spirit of life that she cherished so deeply.
Elizabeth’s life was one of unwavering devotion, especially to her children and grandchildren, who were the light of her life.
She is survived by her beloved daughter, Janet Stidham, along with her brothers: Carter Estep, Robert Collins (Bessie), Elbert Estep, David Collins, and Teddy Collins. Her sisters, Mary Katherine Jones, Jessie Collins, Jennifer Collins, and Teresa Collins, also carry on her legacy of love and familial bonds as well as ten grandchildren and a host of treasured great-grandchildren.
Elizabeth also loved several people as her own, including Fred Barnes, Randall Gibson, Daniel Sizemore, Norma Harris, the William Harris Family, Greg Walker, and Rev. Billy Joe Lewis.
Elizabeth's departure leaves a profound void, amplified by the memory of her beloved parents, Rube Estep and Sophie Estep, and Henry Collins and Sadie Collins, who have passed. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Alonzo Smallwood, as well as her sons: Senior Ray Smallwood, Charles Stevie Smallwood, James Smallwood, and Kenneth Smallwood. The loss extends to her dear daughter, Deanna Napier, one grandson, one great-grandchild, and other beloved siblings, including three brothers and two sisters who now watch over her from afar. An infant daughter, Dellorrie, reminds all of the fragility and beauty of life.
Her life will be honored during visitation at the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home Chapel in Hyden, KY, on December 28, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. A funeral service to celebrate her remarkable life will take place the following day, December 29, 2025, beginning at 1:00 PM at the same location.
Elizabeth Smallwood’s spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and all who knew her, continuing to inspire those she cherished to carry her love forward.
