Edna Hamblin Maggard, beloved matriarch, passed away on January 28, 2026, in Winchester, Kentucky. Born on August 26, 1943, in Butler County, Ohio, Edna lived a life filled with compassion, warmth, and unwavering commitment to her family and community.
For 26 years, Edna served as a custodian for the Leslie County Board of Education, where her work ethic and kindness profoundly impacted the lives of many students and families. Her friends and colleagues remember her as a friendly, nurturing, and lovable presence, always willing to lend a helping hand and share her joyous spirit.
Edna’s interests were diverse and enriching. She relished engaging in word search puzzles, playing guitar, and singing. Her evenings spent watching television were often accompanied by laughter and love, as she cherished the time spent with family.
Edna is survived by her two sons, Isaac Maggard and his wife Tina of Stinnett, Kentucky; and Christopher Maggard of Louisville, Kentucky. Her daughter, Zola Wells, of Winchester, Kentucky, and her brother, Isaac Hamblin and his wife Lanie, continue to hold her memory close in Hamblin, Ohio. Ms. Edna is also survived by grandchildren: Alicia Whitehead (Eric), Laci Griffie (Chris), Trey Hendrix, and Brittany Wells (Kevin); great-grandchildren: Connor Lewis, Colin Lewis, Emersyn Burton, Larkin Burton, and Hallie Lewis.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 52 years, Larkin Maggard; her parents: Woolery Hamblin Sr. and Powers Stidham Hamblin along with her son Lonnie Maggard. Edna also mourns the losses of her daughter: Nannie K. Hendrix and her husband Lonnie, as well as her brothers Lige, Dudley, John, Irvin, Hobert, and Woolery Hamblin Jr., and sisters Susan Lewis, Barbara Shaw, Dora Rogers, and Alisha Callahan.
Edna Hamblin Maggard's remarkable legacy of dedication and love will continue to resonate within the hearts of all who knew her. Her memory will forever be celebrated by her family and friends, who are grateful for the time they shared with such a remarkable woman.
