Drucilla Sizemore Combs, born on June 18, 1933, in Hyden, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2025, at the Wells Hospice Center in Hazard, Kentucky. She leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth that will forever be cherished by her family and friends.
Drucilla, a dedicated beautician at Drucilla's Beauty Shop, was known for her intelligence, inquisitiveness, and friendly demeanor. She spent her life touching the hearts of those around her, creating not just beautiful hair but also beautiful memories for her clients. Her commitment to her work was mirrored in the way she devoted herself to her family. A proud mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, her grandchildren often recount times spent baking in the kitchen, tending to her flower garden, or getting lost in a good mystery novel.
As an individual who completed her education through the 12th grade, Drucilla's knowledge and life experiences shaped her into a remarkable person who was both wise and approachable. She was known for her cooking and enjoyed dedicating time to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, whom she adored.
Drucilla is survived by her devoted son, Gary Dean Rice of Hyden, Kentucky, along with her beloved grandchildren: Christopher Smith (Jaime), Monica Smith (Scott), Deena Rice, Justin Rice (Jessica), Teri Bowling, and Tara Davis. She took immense joy in her great-grandchildren: Andreya Hall (David Michael), Erin Thompson (Brian), Bailey Smith, Mason Asher, Lucas Rice, Shelby Bowling, Arya Rice, Beau Davis, and Clay Bowling.
Drucilla's memory will be lovingly preserved by her family, but she is also mourned by those who preceded her in death. Her parents, Joe Bryant and Laura Asher Sizemore, the father of her children, Charles L. Rice, and her cherished daughter, Sherry Smith, were taken from this world before her. She is also reunited in spirit with her son, Lonnie Rice, and her grandson, Jeff Smith, as well as her siblings: Homer Sizemore, Marie Napier, and Lily Sizemore.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 19, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Walker Funeral Homes in Hyden, KY. Following the visitation, a funeral service will take place at the same location starting at 2:00 PM.
