Douglas (Doug) “Bad Eye” McKinley Turner, a beloved member of the community, passed away on July 2, 2024, at the Greg & Noreen Wells Hospice Center in Hazard, KY. He was born on October 29, 1956, in Hazard, KY, to his loving parents Marcus and Georgia Asher Turner. Doug led a fulfilling life that revolved around hard work and dedication. He worked in various roles including as a surface miner, forestry logging, and coal truck driver. His work ethic and commitment to his profession were truly admirable. Beyond his career accomplishments, Doug will be fondly remembered for his vibrant personality. He had a great sense of humor that could light up any room. A devoted husband, father, brother, and family man, Doug cherished the moments spent with his loved ones. In terms of education, Doug was a proud Class of 1974 graduate from Leslie County High School. He further pursued his academic journey and attended Eastern Kentucky University, Richmond, KY.  His interests were diverse; Doug found joy in simple pleasures like fishing and watching sports on television. A true enthusiast of Nascar Racing, he found excitement and camaraderie in following the races. His spiritual life was also essential to him as he was a member of the Solid Rock Bible Church in Wooton, KY, and occasionally attended the Christian Missionary Alliance church. As a lifelong resident of Leslie County, KY, he touched many lives within his community. 

Doug's memory will be forever cherished by his surviving family and friends. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Deborah Bowling Turner. He is also survived by his son Benjamin Keen Turner & Mary Baker of Wooton, KY; daughter Elizabeth Grace Turner of Wooton, KY; two special daughters he raised by choice: Melinda Morgan and Georgee Caldwell; brother William Marcus Turner & Gail of Hyden, KY; sisters Janice Horton of Hyden, KY, Helen Bray of London, KY; Della Sue Harman of OH; two treasured grandchildren Kaylee Hurt and Peyton Hurt; as well as a special niece Kristy Powers.  Special friends, Filmore Clark Jr & Regina. Doug was preceded in death by his parents Marcus and Georgia Asher Turner. He is also preceded in death by his sisters,  Debbie Caldwell & Annette Hoskins, maternal grandparents McKinley Asher & Grace; paternal grandparents Isaac Turner & Minnie; nieces Regina Mosley & Tonya Callahan, stepmothers Elizabeth Bowling Turner and Ora Turner, brother-in-law Bill Horton, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ford and Faye Bowling, brothers-in-law, Donald Herring, Paul Bowling, Billy Bowling, sister-in-law, Linda Bowling & niece, Nina Tierman.

The memories created with Douglas "Doug" McKinley Turner will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him. His legacy of hard work, humor, and love for family will continue to inspire all those who were fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him. 

The funeral service to honor and celebrate Doug's life will be conduced at Walker Funeral Homes in Hyden at 2:00 P.M.- Saturday on July 6th. 

Visitation will take place from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. 

Officiating ministers will be Robbie Horton, Rev. James Bowling, Jr. and Rev. Teddy Couch.

 Interment will be held at the Turner Family Cemetery at Hyden, KY at a later date

The following serving as pallbearers: Tyler Collett, Robbie Horton, Shannon Turner, Byron Turner, Neil Turner, Casey Collett, Spencer Caldwell & Doug Napier

Honorary pallbearer: Peyton Hurt.
