Don "Duck" Shepherd

April 27, 1949 — August 4, 2023

Don Shepherd, a beloved member of the Leslie County community, has passed away at the age of 74. Don was born on April 27, 1949, in Roark, KY. He was the son of the late Betty Griffith and Lewis Shepherd. Don spent his entire life in Leslie County, except for a three-year period when he lived in Illinois.

Don had a fulfilling career as a coal truck driver, log truck driver, and logger by trade. He displayed dedication and skill in his work, earning the respect of his colleagues and community. Don's commitment to his profession was renowned throughout Leslie County.

Outside of work, Don cherished spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He found immense joy in their presence and treasured every moment shared together. His love for them was unwavering.

Known affectionately as "Duck," Don's humorous personality brought laughter and light to those around him. He had a remarkable ability to make others smile and created an atmosphere of joy wherever he went. Don's outgoing nature allowed him to form lasting connections with people from all walks of life.

Throughout his lifetime, Don was devoted the his Christian faith.

In addition to spending time with loved ones, Don had a variety of hobbies and interests that brought him immense pleasure. He was passionate about gun collecting, fishing, four-wheeling, and playing ball (fetch) with his pet dog. These activities allowed him to unwind, relax and appreciate the beauty of nature.

Tragically, at the age of 74 on August 4th, 2023, Don passed away at his residence located at 2650 Middlefork Rd., Warbranch, KY. His departure has left an unfathomable void in the lives of his family and friends, but his memory will forever be held close to their hearts.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Betty Griffith and Lewis Shepherd, as well as his sister, Jean Roark, grandson, Patrick Coots and niece Gracie, Their loss weighed heavily on Don's heart, and he carried their memories with him throughout his life.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Linda Riddle Shepherd. Don's three cherished sons are Matthew Shepherd and wife Barbara of Georgetown, KY, Ricky Dean Shepherd and wife Stephana of Wooton, KY, and Donald Lee Shepherd and wife Tracy of Warbranch, KY. Additionally, he leaves behind one loving daughter, Virginia Coots, and husband Glenn of Georgetown, KY. & the mother of his children, Lorrine Shepherd Bailey.

Don's legacy lives on through his seven cherished grandchildren: Sierra Shepherd, Joshua Shepherd, Leah Collett, Alicia Shepherd, Dallas Saylor, Kelliana Shepherd, and Kaderick Shepherd. He also adored his two beloved great-grandchildren: Sienna Collett and Kora Long. Don's presence in their lives will forever be a guiding light as they navigate their own paths.

He is also survived by numerous other treasured relatives and friends who had the privilege of sharing in Don's life. His impact on their lives will continue to reverberate through the memories created together.

Don Shepherd was a remarkable man whose love for his family knew no bounds. He touched the lives of many through his warmth, humor, and unwavering faith. As we mourn his passing today, let us also celebrate the beautiful life he led. May he be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather who brought joy to those around him. Don will always hold a special place in our hearts.
