Carole Ann Smith, 57, of Hyden, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2025, Hospice of Hazard, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Carole was born on August 29, 1967, in Dayton, Ohio. She was a devoted mother, a proud daughter, a loving sister, and a true animal lover. Her greatest joy in life was her son, Anthony Braden of Hyden, KY, whom she loved beyond words. Her fur babies, Snoopy and Missy, were also her cherished companions and brought her great comfort and happiness.
Carole was known for her strong work ethic, her caring heart, and her quiet strength. She faced her illness with incredible bravery and determination, fighting hard until her body could no longer keep up. Those who knew Carole knew her as a fighter—someone who met every challenge with resolve and grace.
She is survived by her beloved son, Anthony Braden; her mother, Shirley of Ohio; her sisters, Mary and Barbara, Tammy also of Ohio; and three nieces and three nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Elwood James Smith, whom she now joins on the other side.
In keeping with Carole’s wishes, there will be no formal services. She wanted to be remembered as she was before her illness—a vibrant, loving, and kind soul. For those who wish to honor her memory, flowers, donations, or messages of condolence may be directed to her son, Anthony.
Carole was a special woman who touched many lives, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
“When someone we love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure.
