Buster Jr. Woods, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and esteemed member of the coal mining community, passed away on February 17, 2026, at the UK Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky. He was 69. He was born on May 24, 1956, in Leslie County, Kentucky, where he began a life defined by hard work and dedication to his family.
For an impressive 45 years, Buster made significant contributions to the coal mining industry as a Maintenance Foreman. His career spanned several prominent companies, including Blue Diamond Coal Co., Shamrock Coal Co., Bledsoe Coal Co., and Black Jewell Coal Co. Known for his steadfast work ethic, Buster was respected by his colleagues and valued for his commitment to excellence in his role.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Buster was a devoted family man. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Deborah Kay Hall Woods, and two special daughters, Rebecca Woods Pennington and Ralph, and Jessica Woods and Marshall. He cherished his role as a grandfather to four treasured grandchildren: Tristan Kayson, Aidan Buster, Katelyn Danielle, and Matthew Daniel, who brought immense joy to his life.
Buster's interests extended beyond his work; he was a handy-man who possessed the remarkable ability to fix and repair anything. He found great pleasure in gardening, hunting, fishing, and spending leisurely days riding the pontoon on the lake. His love for horses was also a significant part of his life, reflecting his connection to the land and nature.
He is also survived by his sister, Rowena Woods Sizemore, and half-sister, Sarah Roberts. Buster's legacy will continue through the many relatives and friends who hold him dear in their hearts.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Woods and Ophia Osborne Woods, as well as his sister, Irene Woods Sizemore, son-in-law, Marty Pennington, and mother-in-law, Reba Horton.
Buster Jr. Woods will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family and community, leaving behind a rich legacy of love, hard work, and cherished memories.
The family is honoring Buster's wishes with having a private graveside service.
