Bernice Farmer Roberts

July 31, 1926 — May 19, 2023

Stinnett

Bernice Roberts, aged 96, passed away peacefully on May 19th, 2023 at Well's Hospice Center in Hazard, KY. Bernice was born on July 31st, 1926 in Stinnett, KY to Clyde and Ester Smith Farmer.  Bernice graduated from the Stinnett Settlement School in March 1945 and was one of three in her graduating class. She attended Transylvania University, Lexington, Ky.

Bernice was the Retired Post Mistress for 20 years at Stinnett, KY and worked as a Forelady at the Sunshine Biscuit Company in Dayton, OH for 16 years. She was a strong and hardworking woman who deeply loved her family and friends. Bernice was a woman of unwavering faith. She was faithful and devoted member of the Stinnett Church of Christ since she was a teenager. She never missed a Sunday service and was an active Sunday School teacher. Bernice enjoyed reading her bible, singing hymns, and listening to music.

Bernice's proudest accomplishment was her family. She cherished her husband, Ernest Roberts until his passing in July 2010. She also loved being the mother of her two children, Linda Sue Collett (Husband Bobby) of Springboro, OH and Larry Richard Roberts of Stinnett, KY. Her four grandchildren; Robert Collett, Stephanie Seagraves (Husband John), Ernest Roberts (Wife Takeshia) and Whitney Roberts, six great-grandchildren, Zachary Seagraves, Kayla Seagraves, Braylee Roberts, Shooter Roberts, Ryker Roberts & Zoey Analee Howard were highly cherished by their grandmother.

Apart from being an exceptional wife and mother, Bernice had many interests that kept her busy outside of work. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, vegetable gardening, and flower gardening but it was always rumored that no one could match up to her cooking skills. Those who knew Bernice well appreciated the love she put into every dish she made.  She insisted all visitors to her home not leave without having something to eat.  Bernice also had a great concern for the hungry and those who had needs in her community. Throughout her life, Bernice showed compassion towards others by creating beautiful and heartfelt quilts and throws for members within the community. Sewing blankets that brought warmth to newborns or a sense of support during stressful times such as fires or during illness. By doing so, she bestowed an invaluable gift of care upon them.  Bernice also shared a mutual love for fishing with her late husband Ernest and spent cherished moments in each other's company .

Bernice will be fondly remembered by many people whose lives she touched over the years including but not limited to: her loving and devoted husband, Ernest Roberts, infant son, Johnny Clyde Roberts, brothers Emmitt, Clen, Clay and Hershel Farmer, sisters Ethel and Zola as well as Daughter-In-Law Elaine Roberts who all preceded her in death.

Friends and family are mourning the loss of Bernice Roberts and will gather to pay their respects at the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home on Monday, May 22nd, 2023 from 6pm to 9pm for visitation. Funeral service will be held at the Stinnett Church of Christ on Tuesday, May 23rd, 2023 starting at 1pm with Keith Bowling officiating.  Burial will see Bernice laid to rest at the Bowen's Creek (Woodson Fork) Cemetery at Essie, KY, alongside her husband, Ernest who preceded her in death.  Zachary Seagraves & Ernest Roberts will serve as pallbearers, John Seagraves will be an honorary pallbearer.

Bernice will be remembered by everyone as a beloved mother, treasured grandmother, and cherished friend. The world is a little dimmer without her bright smile, but her influence and memory will live on forever in the hearts of those who knew her.
