Audrey Mae Smith Morgan, a beloved figure in the Leslie County community, passed away on January 9, 2026, at the Mary Breckinridge-ARH Hospital in Hyden, Kentucky. She was 89 years old. Born on August 18, 1936, in Leslie County, Kentucky, she dedicated her life to serving others, notably through her career as a cook for the Leslie County School System. Her nurturing spirit and culinary talents touched the lives of many students and families throughout her years of service.
Audrey was deeply committed to her faith, being a devoted member of the Stinnett Church of Christ at Hoskinston, KY. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her in her relationships and community involvement.
Audrey had many interests that brought her joy, including shopping, gardening, and caring for her flowers. She was known to be a pack rat, cherishing memories and mementos associated with her loved ones. Time spent with family was what she valued above all else, forging bonds that will be remembered for generations.
She is survived by her two daughters, Armilda Hoskins and husband, Jerry, and Rhonda Tinnel. Audrey also leaves behind a loving sister, Eva Jean Hoggard, as well as three cherished grandchildren: Jennifer Wilson and husband, Jeff; Shane Tinnel and wife, Sabrina; and Seth Tinnel and wife, Kim. Additionally, she was blessed with six great-grandchildren: Jaxon, Jacob, Jennah Skye, Ethan, Isaiah, and Faith. Audrey is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Imogene Morgan and Mary Angela Morgan, along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Though she is preceded in death by her parents, Bill Smith and Mattie Sizemore Smith; her husband, John L. Morgan; her son-in-law, Duane Tinnel; and her siblings Raymond Smith, Emma Morgan, Chloe Howard, Lizzie Morgan, Cleopus Smith, David Smith, Troy Smith, Winford Smith, and Roy Smith, and a host of brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, her legacy of love and compassion will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Funeral: Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at 1:00 P.M. at the Stinnett Church of Christ, Hoskinston, KY.
