Athalene Gross, passed away on Monday, May 26, 2025, at the UK-Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. She was 67 years old. Born on June 29, 1957, in Hyden, Kentucky, she touched the lives of many during her time as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Hospice of the Bluegrass, providing compassionate care and support to those in need.
Athalene's love for her family was evident in everything she did. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Rebecca Asher, and son-in-law, Wally, from Berea, Kentucky. As a proud grandmother, Athalene found immense joy in spending time with her granddaughter, Cami Asher. Among her close family members are her brothers, Odean Gross and Clayton Gross, along with his wife, Laura Sue, and her sister, Sheila Marshall. Athalene also had a special bond with her niece and friend, Christy Napier, and leaves behind a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will dearly miss her.
Athalene had a passion for gardening, relishing every moment spent nurturing her plants, along with the simple pleasures of sitting on the porch and cooking for her loved ones. Her dog, Milo, was a constant companion, adding joy to her days.
She is preceded in death by her loving parents, Farmer and Mallie Hendrix Gross, as well as her sons, Mark Anthony and Bobby Brandon. Athalene was also preceded in death by her brother, Harold Harris, and sisters Gaylene Napier, Loretta Cornett, and Ann Conner.
Athalene Gross leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and resilience. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her, and she will be remembered for her unwavering dedication to her family and her compassionate spirit in caring for others.
