Anthony "Barney" Lane Lewis

Mr. Anthony "Barney" Lane Lewis born October 31, 1959 in Hazard, Kentucky. He was the son of Lois Pennington Lewis Wells and the late, John L. Lewis. Anthony passed away Saturday, July 9, 2022 at the Wells Hospice Center in Hazard, Kentucky. He was 62 years old. He had been a lifelong resident of Leslie County. By occupation Anthony was a retired coal miner. He was a devoted member of the Full Gospel Church of Jesus Christ at Smilax, Kentucky. Anthony was a very accomplished, self-taught drummer having played in multiple bands and also at his church. He passed his talents onto his three sons and others whom he taught to play. Anthony loved "cutting up" and making people laugh. He was a friend to all animals and enjoyed mowing grass and being outdoors. He was also an avid UK and NY Jets fan.

Anthony is preceded in death by his beloved father, John L. Lewis, paternal grandparents, Katy and Bige Lewis, maternal grandparents, Rose and Junior Pennington and mother-in-law, Mary Baker Joseph. He leaves the following relatives surviving; his beloved mother and step-father; Lois Pennington Wells and Otis, London, KY, wife, Recia Whitaker Lewis, Smilax, KY, three cherished sons, Derek Lewis and Amanda, Smilax, KY, Ashton Lewis, Smilax, KY and Stefan Lewis, Jackson, KY, one step-son, Eric Whitaker, Smilax, KY., mothers of children, Teresa Callahan Hall, Whitesburg, KY. and Rhonda Jones, Smilax, KY., one special brother, Johnny Lewis and Elizabeth "Bib", London, KY, three cherished granddaughters, Nevaeh, Avery and Adalyn, father-in-law, Elvin Joseph, Smilax, KY, two treasured nieces, Beth Lewis and Ben and Becky Young and B.J., a special uncle, Pastor Billy Joe Lewis and a special aunt, Susie Hensley. Also a host of cousins, other relatives and friends survive.

Funeral: Friday, July 15, 2022 at 1:00 P.M. at the Full Gospel Church of Jesus Christ, Smilax, Kentucky

Interment: Full Gospel Church Cemetery, Smilax, Kentucky
