The Story of Eileen Gabbard Sizemore
On Sunday, November 13, 1932, Ms. Eileen Gabbard Sizemore was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, to the late Goldie Murrell Gabbard and Andrew Gabbard. Eileen grew up in Cincinnati with her siblings, Bill, Jesse, Mildred, Violet, Ima Jane, Midge, and Edith Marie.
Eileen married the love of her life, Robert Lee Sizemore, on January 6, 1948, in Covington, Kentucky. She and Robert Lee later moved to Hals Fork, Kentucky. They owned a small store, where Eileen worked. They were blessed with seven children: Linda, Bobby, Joan, Cathy, Jeanie, Goldie, and Billy. Eileen devoted her time to lovingly raising her children. She also cared for her mother-in-law, Lily Sizemore. Although she and Robert Lee divorced later in life, he continued to visit her. On those visits, she would still sneak in the back room and steal some sugar.
Eileen was an exceptional cook. She enjoyed cooking for her family. She was happiest when all her family was gathered around the table. Her kitchen was a favorite after school stop for her children and grand children. Eileen loved traveling, especially vacations with her family and friends. She was an avid reader of Danielle Steele. She enjoyed canning and quilting. She spent many hours watching Days of Our Lives and the Price is Right, with her precious Joan. She loved opening the window during a storm and listening to the rain.
We were blessed to have Eileen in this life and learned many important things from her during her 86 years. “Honey if you do nothing else in the morning, remember to wash your face and put on your lipstick.” “People have more fun than anyone.” “Honey a watched pot never boils.” If you have children, “You are rich.” “Love hides all faults.” Those are only a few of the lessons she taught us, there are many more. She was always there with a hand hold and “I Love You.” She left a lasting impression of strength and love in all of us.
Eileen was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Goldie Gabbard; her husband, Robert Lee Sizemore; daughter, Linda Sizemore Rice; grandson, Brian Matthew Sizemore; brothers, William “Bill” Gabbard and Jesse Gabbard; and sisters, Ima Jane McFarland, Edith Marie Gabbard, Violet Smith, Wanda “Midge” Casey, and Mildred Sizemore.
